Lost right soud channel update

On recent podcast I noticed I was missing part of the conversation and 
discovered with Audacity that the right channel of the audio was not being 
output.

I changed speaker systems and problem persisted. I looked at the mixer and 
system sound settings and could not find anything that affected the problem.

NOTE:
After a duh moment, I rebooted the system under Window$ 95 and *both* channels 
worked perfectly. So it does not seem likely to be a hardware problem.

Any suggestions as to next debugging step.
