Partitioning questions

Goh Lip advised me to avoid Partition Manager.  What I have done for 
some years, is use PM to kill all partitions, make several partitions of 
20 GB for Linux installs, a swap partition & one large partition for my 
files.  After partitions are written & formatted, 2 or 3 distros are 
installed.  Are GUI partitioning applications not trustworthy for use 
before operating systems are installed?

The documentation for cp (info coreutils 'cp invocation') has no mention 
of UUID.  If cp -r is used to copy all files in a partition to another 
partition, will UUID be duplicated?
