Ordinary reinstall never helps for misconfiguration stored in the user's 
home directory, it only cares about system wide files. Your user 
settings are in "$HOME/.kde/share/config/" (look for filenames starting 
with kopete) and in "$HOME/.kde/share/apps/kopete/".
