Lucid Lynx and grub

Hello List.

Yesterday i did the upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04.
Everything works fine as before. Only I deinstalled knetworkmanager.
Wicd seems to be better and faster.
Grub doesn't remember the last system used. /etc/default/grub has not
been changed. The default is 'saved' as before.
I did another update-grub but nothing has changed. Grub always starts
the first system in the list!
How can I get grub work as before?
