Bas, I am writing this to you in advance, going for fast dinner (gmt +8)

*2nd last thing to do*

at grub prompt, note output of either
ls (hd1,6)/boot/

or
ls (hd1,7)/boot/

record the latest kernel listed,
then go to step [3], which is menu of "vmlinuz", amend to

linux	/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-20-generic root=/dev/sdb6
initrd	/boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-20-generic

--- modify above with kernel listed, (if 2.6.31-17, use that instead)---
Then control +x to boot.

update, upgrade and
sudo grub-install /dev/sda
