I installed the 2.6.32.9 vanilla kernel from the above site and that 
kernel enabled the hotplug detection of the flashdisk, but it disabled 
my wireless network card because it does not have the Ubuntu patches 
that provide the ndiswrapper kernel module, and a reinstall of the 
ndiswrapper-common and ndiswrapper-utils packages does not activate the 
card because they do not have the kernel module. Those packages are all 
that is necessary to activate the card under the karmic and lucid kernels.
