CD and DVD RW not detected‏

The $ is the sign on your prompt that says you're a normal user. I could have 
used # and left out sudo, but this tends to confuse Ubuntu users.

Ok, you have no cdrom drives. Did you install Kubuntu from cd a usb stick?

Can anyone confirm this is a kernel issue, or is there a difference between 
ata and sata drives listing by lshw?

Study the complete output of lshw or install kinfocenter. If your cdrom drives 
are still missing, you better file a bug report against the linux package.

No, really. My spamassassin solution is adequate. Also, Hotmail does have a 
bad reputation. I wouldn't trust it.
