True enough Mark. But if your going to steer Bill towards my favorite email
client, you may as well suggest the updated "drop in replacement" that he
can actually get with apt-get...
An excerpt from http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/allpackages :
alpine (2.00+dfsg-4ubuntu1) [universe]
Text-based email client, friendly for novices but powerful
Bill, original pine {which can still be had from www.washington.edu/pine/getpine }
shares an almost identical user interface, with alpine {Which in addition to the
version in "universe", can be had from www.washington.edu/alpine/acquire }
That interface is different from mutt. Both pine & alpine require a little bit of
configuration to get working. {Well actually, if you had mutt working... the
default configuration of the *nix versions use sendmail (user at hostname) and your
machine's mail spool.} The interface is mouse friendly, but designed for the
keyboard. It features single keystroke command initializations with the
currently valid choices displayed at the bottom of the screen. It has an
extensive internal help system. It's primarily designed {and easiest to
configure} to access standards compliant IMAP server accounts. But if you look deep
enough there are setup instructions for compliant POP servers as well.
In the event that you get stuck there are mailing lists.
