This is taken from:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/+bug/429003
and worked for me.

...

If you've been on Karmic for a bit, you probably already have the
packages needed in /var/cache/apt/archives/

sudo dpkg -i --force-downgrade
/var/cache/apt/archives/libc6_2.10.1-0ubuntu9_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i --force-downgrade
/var/cache/apt/archives/libc6-i686_2.10.1-0ubuntu9_i386.deb

...

if you need to go get the packages they can be found here:

libc6-dev ubuntu9 :
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31699762/libc6-dev_2.10.1-0ubuntu9_i386.deb
<http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31699762/libc6-dev_2.10.1-0ubuntu9_i386.deb>

libc6-i686 ubuntu9 :
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31699765/libc6-i686_2.10.1-0ubuntu9_i386.deb
<http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31699765/libc6-i686_2.10.1-0ubuntu9_i386.deb>

Sometimes I wonder. Were our faith able to stand upright and look around, would it be looking down at the mustard seed or standing in awe of the height and breadth of it.
