Scanning app 'vuescan' for Linux - has anyone installed/used it?

I use it on ubuntu 8.04.  I have version 8.5.14.  I have had no
problems.  I installed it to /opt/VueScan.  It's been a while but I
think all I did was download the tar file to /opt and then untar it to
VueScan.  I think I did it as root.
