Kmail in Kubuntu 9.04: what is 'disconnected' IMAP?

Hello everybody

When configuring an account in KMAIL, the menu mentions two kinds of 'IMAP':
'disconnected' IMAP
(simply) 'IMAP´
What is the difference between both kinds of IMAP?
