kPackageKit does nothing

There are lots of problems with kpackagekit.

Try installing adept (sudo apt-get install adept) and using that instead
-- it's not the worlds best interface (IMHO the best package manager
interface is the shaman manager from Chakra) but it's a lot more
functional than kpackagekit.
