You had better make a sacrifice to the Linux gods now after that last
email to atone for your sins. LOL

I have never had gimp crash, ever. I would start looking for hardware
problems. On the other hand I have been having everything crash this
week or two. I am starting to think that that last kernel update was a
real dud but I get no errors just a locked up computer.
