*Hello David and everybody!*

*Your feedback, David, apparently contains the key I am looking for. Now, I
am able again to write this message from the Kubuntu 9.10 partition of my
PC. Thank you very much!*

*Yes, there is a considerable improvement! Via the edit function of
'Midnight Commander" I carried out your advice with respect to the
xorg.conf file. Than, I saved the changes, closed the editor and Midnight
Commander. After coming back in the normal command line, I rebooted via the
command 'reboot'. Now, the screen/ Window Manager looks perfectly acceptable
again.

A few minor points of attention remain for now:
*

   1. *Do I need to do anything else with respect to the xorg.conf file? *
   2. *If the answer to question 1 is 'yes': do I need to do anything in
that file and/ or anywhere else to optimise it for the graphical card I have
in this PC? See also below: output of the command line test "spci | grep VGA
   *".
   3. *In the xorg.conf file I found the following advise: **If you have
edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated again, run
   the following command:
   # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg.* *Would you advise me to
   do so?*
   4. *Is there anything else I could do in order to avoid the kind of
   complications i had yesterday?*
   5. *Is there a way to manually get back the desktop plasma at the screen?

   *
   6. *Is there a way to make the panel below and it's widgets slightly
bigger: about 110% compared to their dimensions now? Also other items at the
screen are a bit smaller compared to what I am used to. In some packages
like Firefox and OpenOffice I can zoom out a bit. But how can I zoom out
   elsewhere in the system?
   *

*This is the output I get:

**bas at Viaconsensus1:~$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/910GL
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0e)
bas at Viaconsensus1:~$**

Here, this message finishes. Thanks, respectfuly yours,

Bas.
