slow browsing in karmic konqueuror

Since switching to karmic on one machine, browsing in konqueror has been 
nearly impossible.  Most pages seem to time out.  Browsing is not a problem w/ 
Chromium, Opera or FF.  I don't have this problem on another machine.   Both 
machines were clean installs but re-used ~/.kde which had been running kde 
4.3.2 under jaunty.

Any ideas on what might have happened?
