I didn't check that, but "mount" reported / to be mounted from /dev/sda6 for 
sure.

And I was replying: see my original post. If I wasn't sure the UUID was ok I 
wouldn't have told you so.
I'm not short to be rude but because I got way too much issues on my hands to 
chat, sorry.
Should really get me a Mac or two...

Too late, backups overwrote the damaged installation. Currently my plan is to 
wait for 9.10.1, then make another attempt, that fails decide whether to 
reinstall or switch dists. Gotta cross the t's and dot the i's.
