Grub and Grub2 don't get along?

This second one worked. I now have included it as the Kubuntu 9.10 entry in
my 9.04 menu.lst.
I wonder if the reason the first option didn't work is shown by the fact that
SystemSettings->LoginManager->Shutdown shows Boot Manger = none.
What would it do if I changed that to "Grub"?
