Xorg on Thinkpad W500 and Jaunty

I upgraded my w500 from Intrepid to Jaunty today. The W500 has an
ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650 graphics card.
In intrepid I had it working pretty well, though there were some
klunky parts. Jaunty looks like it should be much better supported,
but I can't get it to work quite right.
When kdm starts, it looks like X tries to start 3 times, then it
starts in 1024x768 mode. After I log in I can use xrandr to switch
to the native 1680x1050, but I should be able to get X started in that
mode when kdm comes up.
Anyone else using this? Of ever seen this before? I see no evidence
of errors in the log file, except that it seems to see all the
available modes several times. There is a list of unsupoprted
visuals, followed by:
(II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so
(II) GLX: Initialized DRI GL provider for screen 0
(II) fglrx(0): Enable the clock gating!
(II) fglrx(0): Restoring recent mode: 1024x768 at 75Hz
I think that is where my mode is getting set, and I can't find a way
to make another mode be used by default.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,m
Michael
