Thanks for the help. I switched to XAA and after a few minutes of testing I
couldn't reproduce the problem, I don't notice any significant performance
problems either. Although this hasn't cleared up all the quirks with the
drawing of widgets, especially the scroll bar in Firefox.
In case anyone comes across this from a search add the following line under
the "Device" section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file...
Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"
