I suppose that I could google it in lynx. The truth is, you will see
in TF Ubuntu A that I just asked this very question today, after
googling and finding only answers for Redhat systems. I appreciate the
compliment but I will turn it against you: if someone of my apparent
above-average skill level cannot reset the X server without C-A-B,
then what is the casual user to do? Serious question.

I learned C-A-B because I needed it once, I don't even remember when
or why. It is universal: it works for a hanging Compiz, Google Earth,
Stellarium, or anything else. Bringing up a terminal and starting to
diagnose is much less universal and challenging, especially when the
user does not have a graphical web browser at their disposal.

I learned it when I needed it. I had no guru around to hold my hand.
In fact, the situation is rather dire as _I_ am not considered the
local Linux guru. Shudder.

Maybe we do need a command for restarting X. I'll file a bug.
