Wow, so they really are trying to be like windows! ☺

Akonadi is _like_ a database: Kontact and Kmail will store information
there. As the information will be in a central place, other
applications could use it.

Nepomuk is (I think) an index service, which will help the user tag
and locate files, contacts, bookmarks, and other bits of information.

Akonadi is important for Kontact in KDE 4.2, which is why it is
included in Jaunty and not in othre distros. I don't remember seeing
it in Intrepid, but I passed over that version (my daily driver is
still Hardy) so I could be wrong.
