Limitation in display setting

Dear all,

I did a fresh install of 9.04, KDE 4.2.90 on my home desktop.

Now I cannot change the setting of the monitor beyond 800x400, refresh rate
60 Hz.  My monitor has bigger capabilities but I can't do it through the
System setting.

Any ideas?
