What's a blocked update (Jerry Lapham)

Today when I clicked on the Software Updates icon it showed 4 bug fix updates 
and 4 "blocked updates."  The blocked updates were for kernel 2.6.28.11.15.  I 
clicked on "Apply all available updates" and it downloaded and installed the 
bug fixes but not the blocked.  The icon still showed 8 updates available.

I also had this problem. In my memory jogger(paper based) I had the following two commands
scribbled down:

sudo aptitude update(wait for it to finish first)
sudo aptitude safe-upgrade

which seemed to install the 'blocked' jobbies fine. And got rid of them from the KpackageKit
queue. I've no idea where I filched these commands from but they worked for my AMD64 Jaunty
