Adding app shortcuts to panels

Ah, I missed the 'Menu item' bit. I read 'Panel'. Now -- if the icon is *not* 
in a menu... then how can I add it?

For example - I installed gnote (and ditched tomboy and mono) but gnote has no 
icon in the menu. How can I make a shortcut to it?
