It certainly can be done. I've done this.
Unfortunately, Windows detected 'new hardware' and wanted me to be activated 
again before I could log in and install the necessary drivers. One of the new 
hardware parts was my virtual keyboard...

So, I gave up trying. It's no use if you can't type. This should work with 
Vista, because you can 'try' Vista without activating for a time and get your 
drivers installed.
