Kubuntu Jaunty 64 bit, Nvidia: no console (ALT+F1)

Hi all,
I'm running Kubuntu 9.04 64 bit.
Mi video card is an Nvidia and I'm using the 180 version of the video 
driver.

All works fine; but when I try to switch to any virtual terminal (from 
ALT+F1 to ALT+F6) I obtain a black screen and I cannot write anything.

The only strange thing I have is that this installation is an upgrade 
from 8.10 and not a clean install.

What can I do?
