kontact/kmail needs X reset after resume

This just started.  Up until this weekend whenever I resumed my system I could 
hit the button to get new emails and they'd come.

Now, whenever I come out of resume I have to hit ctrl-alt-backspace and 
restart the desktop (KDE 3.5.10, kontact 1.9.10) in order to download new 
emails.

Anyone have any idea what happened and how I can fix it?
