Kubuntu 8.10 does not recognise external HD with NTFS and FAT32 partitions.

Hello Ulrich and everybody

This morning, I plugged in the external HD at 09:48:07. This is what
the /var/log/syslog report tells about the first 6 seconds from that
moment onwards:

Add. Sense: No additional sense information

So, the system does recognise the USB device, but the attempt to
access it still gets stuck somehow. At this moment (11:04), the USB
external HD device is still plugged in. However, the syslog report
only produces now only 'no sense' and 'no additional sense' feedback
like the two last lines above this alinea.

Like in .../syslog, also the feedback in the rest of .../messages
after 09:48:13 only consists of the last 2 lines above this alinea: so
the 'no sense' and 'no additional sense' feedback.

> ..../var/log/dmesg)
Most of this file consists of that 'no sense' and 'no additional
sense' feedback, like in the other 2 files. No specific info found on
the USB external HD.

I hope this information can give a clue enabling someone to provide me
with some key to solve the still not solved problem with respect to
the non-accessible USB device. Is there any special software package
that could help in this context - something meant to recognise
external hard disks with NTFS and FAT 032 configurations - similar to
the Digikam packages enabling Kubuntu 8.10 to recognise a camera?

Thx. for your feedback. Respectfully yours,

Bas.
