Kubuntu 8.10 desktop - how to get back the panel at the bottom of the screen?

Dear everybody

Because of some mistake I cannot reconstruct any more, I lost the
panel at my desktop: the bar at the bottom screen of Kubuntu 8.10. I
tried to get it back by means of the option 'add panel'. But this does
not work. Also via system settings, I did not yet manage to find a way
to get back the panel as it was when I installed Kubuntu 8.10. Inside
the system settings menu, I tried APPEARANCE, DESKTOP and WINDOW
BEHAVIOUR. Quite probably I have overlooked some option which could
help me.
The absence of the panel at the bottom makes working at the desktop
quite complicated .... So I would highly appreciate your (short)
answer. Thanks!
