What is Skim for Hardy KDE 3.5.10

apt cache show skim showed 3 java packages to install, but I won't since I 
don't need it.  I just ignore the icon on the dropdown then?  Just when I 
think I am getting a handle on something I go back into the maze.  I still 
want to solve my .rar problem using konsole.  Thanks friend.
