Can't Install Kubuntu 8.10 Properly - HELP!!

Here's what I suggested. No guarantees of course, but it's what I would
have tried were I in your position, given my experience with blank screen=
s
at log on with 8.10.

What happens if you go to the console? Can you log in that way?

And if you can log in, then I suggest you try the following:

  1. go to ~/.kde/share/config
  2. in kwinrc, set Enabled=3Dfalse in the [Compositing] section.
  3. Reboot

If you can't log in, what messages (if any) are on the console?
