There was a problem with some 8139 cards, maybe yours is one of them. If 
it is there should be appropriate error messages in the log. Can you post 
the output of these commands?

grep -2 8139 /var/log/messages | grep -2 error
lsmod | grep 8139

And maybe here is the solution. From

I know you can see your card but OTOH you probably have a different kernel 
than the person of the forum post.
