Can you briefly explain how?

I assume that the (IDE) CD burner is installed in minitower or
desktop case and the motherboard include one free IDE
connector for CD burner, i.e the burner must be connected
standalone od IDE bus and properly jumpered (master/slave)
SATA burner don`t require setting for master/slave.

Please, explain what you mean with 'IRQ' and 'dma'.

IRQ means interrupt request and dma is direct memory access
This set imho kernel depend on drive specification. For example DMA
can be 33/66
