How do I activate my sdb5 partition and have it stay active continually.

The sudo commands were just in case the normal user commands were not
allowed. We see now that they are redundant as the regular user
commands were allowed. Now, run these commands:
$ cd /media/sdb5
$ sudo chown steven *
$ sudo chgrp steven *
$ ls -la
And post back the output.
It looks to me like the only directory on that disk is "steven". Do
you have reason to think that there are others?
