Kmail. Intrepid install won't work.

I installed Kmail on my new 64 bit Intrepid Box. I believe I have upgraded
everything, so I don't think that is an issue, however, with the selfsame
configuration as on my 32bit install, when I attempt to send, I get the
following error message:

Kmail configuration Sending failed:
Your smtp server does not support The server responded: "authorization
failed
(#5.7.0)". Choose a different authentication method. The server
responded: "authorization failed (#5.7.0)"

Boy, I copied and pasted that onto the plazma note on my 64 bit system. It
looks like the words got muddled up. I will check and repost if different,
but to do so, I have to unplug and plug my keyboard; it is a difficult
connection on my old Dell. Lousy engineering.

In any event, I have Intrepid on a 32bit box, my old system. Kmail works
perfect on it. I have meticulously copied the configuration from the 32bit
box that works to the 64bit box that doesn't work with the exact same
configuration. Is there a different authentication method for 64bit
machines? I can't be more careful in my effort. I am frustrated to the
max.
