Hmmmmm, can you copy the file to somewhere in home home directory or in /tmp?
Mplayer doesn't seem to see the file...
And for your codecs, from the command line, as root (or in the Synaptic)
w32codecs is the package name.
On the command line, to see if it is installed, you can type:
dpkg -l |grep w32codecs
and see if it has a little "ii" next to it's name...That means it's installed.
