Were Intrepid updates the reason I lost my sound on the Intrepid partition?

Don't think so...  My user name is matthew-flaschen and my home page is
https://launchpad.net/~matthew-flaschen .  There is no such page
https://launchpad.net/~Shabakthanai so I don't think that's a valid
