I like gmail for the fact that I can use my kmail to receive and write my 
mail.  Hold over from the old days I guess, I feel I am wasting time if I use 
a webbased system as well as being horribly exposed to a spam producing 
company like most "free" mail providers are.  Mickysoft owns hot mail so I 
suppose they set it up to use their default although it really makes little 
sense to read the answer before you see the question.  MS has never been one 
to follow an existing standard, they just steal them and flip a bit to make 
them their own.
