Kernel update to 2.6.24-23-generic and nvidia module

Hi,
	last kernel update broke my X server. The X session won't start 
reporting the following error:

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0):  *** Aborting ***
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) UnloadModule: "wfb"
(II) UnloadModule: "fb"
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I can't event modprobe the module by hand. I tried to reinstall 
nvidia-glx-new but nothing changed....

Anybody else experiencing the same?
