Right you are.  Was going to attach a screen shot from when I got in this 
morning, showing Help|About KDE at 4.1.96 but it was too big for the list.  
After

sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude safe-upgrade

Now 4.2.0

Moreover, the fact that I am sending you this email confirms that the kmail 
1.11.0 crash issue in 4.1.96, disappears after upgrading to 4.2.
