problem with home directory

Hello,

Since a couple of weeks I have a problem with my home directory. Any 
application that lists my home directory (/home/amuls/) is stalled for several 
minutes, eg dolphin, k3b, konqueror (filemangement), ...

A ls in the home directory also stalls for several minutes.
Starting emacs (from menu of from home dir) also makes the startup time very 
long.

Doing similar things in any other directory does not cause a similar problem.

I already looked at the contents but I cannot find anything wrong. Any advice?
