You can either:

install xubuntu-desktop through synaptic ( if you use the command line
the instruction is:

sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

) or you can download the .iso file, which you can get from
http://www.xubuntu.org

Remember that Xfce is a Window Manager and not a desktop environment,
which means the underlying desktop environment should be accessible
through a different interface.  The apps provided are mainly Gnome
apps, but of course you can add virtually whatever your hard drive a
ram will take (just remember the dependencies - they take up the space).

Good luck!  Its good to see a Linux newbie investigating the
alternatives...
