open a terminal (like konsole) and type this:

sudo aptitude full-upgrade

type your sudo password, and see what aptitude is telling you about them.
most probably, they conflict with another package, OR, installing them
requires the removal of an old obsolete package. by default, if a
certain (newer) package requires the removal of an already installed
package which won't be needed anymore, and even conflicts with the new
package, the system refrains from installing it until you know about it,
and approve it.
graphically, i have no idea how to do this, i know it's easy to do in
synaptic, as it shows you dependency issues, but no idea about
kpackagekit, never used it, and not willing to. aptitude is my best friend.
