Monitor Shutting off

This is from my previous post, asking why my monitor was shutting 
off when using the Gimp.

I have found that it has something to do with the Desktop effects. A 
few minutes ago, I dragged a widget to my desktop and my monitor 
shut off and I couldn't recover without a reboot. After reboot, I tried 
dragging the widget again and got the same symptom, so I reset and 
turned off openGL and the desktop effects and Dragged the widgets 
without a problem.

So I guess it didn't have anything to do with the Gimp after all.
