Have you tried finding it on the command line?    
'find -name <name of file>' would work.  Using wildcards like * and ? might be 
recommended.  If your file was named 'WheresWally' you could use something like 
' find -name Wher* '
If you want to search *everywhere*, go to the root folder and put a sudo in 
front of it.  From what I am reading, it can't hurt to try.
