I am not sure if this helps, but if someone else thinks it is off-track, please jump in and rectify. Also, my French has broken dependencies.

I had some problems with Kaffeine when Jaunty was in alpha 3 or 4, due to broken dependencies. Here's what I did.

I uninstalled Kaffeine, not purged.
Do the update; update went smoothly, no problems unlike when Kaffeine was installed.
Reinstalled Kaffeine. 

All is well.

Perhaps you should uninstall vlc, update and reinstall vlc?

notes: 
1. Do not need to clear your /var/cache/apt/archives. Reinstallation won't need new downloads.

2. Vlc, like Kaffeine is not the media player of choice for KDE4. Dragon Player is. Maybe some conflict with what Dragon Player uses?

If the above doesn't help, maybe you should purge and reinstall with fresh downloads of vlc, maybe the files are no good?
