Some "just work" some just won't.
The ones I have had success with are one branded Peak, which states on the
packaging that it works with Linux, and a BlueNext model BN-WD54G, bought via
ebay.
What sort of machine are you using? Is it a laptop? If so you might find the
possibility of installing a built in WiFi card. My old Toshiba has several
access panels underneath. One reveals a cavity with a mini PCI slot for
taking a WiFi card. There is also a pair of antenna wires with tiny coaxial
connectors that must be plugged into the card. Loads of these laptop cards
can be found on ebay, but ask before you buy about compatibility. My laptop
has very, very short antenna cables that enter at the wrong end of the cavity
to connect to most of the Intel etc. branded cards. The only one I could find
with suitably placed antenna connectors was a Samsung branded card, recovered
from a scrapped machine I think, so be careful what you buy.
