sluggish mouse and application opening since upgrade to Rc Jaunty.

I realize that this is going to sound pretty stupid, nonetheless, I think many
of you expect this from me. But since upgrade to the Rc of Jaunty, my mouse
has been working badly. It works on non-jaunty machines just fine, but on the
Jaunty box, it would lag, act as though it was not engaged, and have to be
pressed multiple times to make things happen. Additionally, applications had
difficulty opening.
Well, here comes the stupid part that I am known for: I heard from a friend
that this was a bug that would be fixed, so I accepted the fact that I would
have to struggle with my computer until the update would arrive.
This is where things get strange. I decided to install wine, using the new
method provided by the Wine people. I installed using Kdebi. When I then
tried to install the debugging symbols, I had difficulty, which caused me to do
a little research. As I proceeded, I noticed that my mouse is working
perfectly and applications are opening perfectly.
I did ABSOLUTELY nothing to make this happen. I did not update or upgrade
anything. I did not fiddle with my video settings or anything that might
explain what happened. Nonetheless, unless the gremlins left my machine,
something I did in the process of the Wine and dependency installation caused
this to happen.
Orrrrrrrrrr, something in my machine was working in the background to resolve
the problem. I don't understand enough about how computers work to know the
possibilities, but I do know that it is great to have a functioning desktop
again. Everything is fast and responsive; the mouse works perfectly.
Taking the obvious chance of looking like an idiot, I thought I should still
just pass this on, in case there is some logical reason the activity caused
while installing Wine enacted a cure, and in case it isn't as dumb as it
sounds, even to me. Maybe installing Wine through the wine site, using Debian
and KDebi will have the same effect for someone else with a sluggish mouse. I
can hear the laughter in the background.
