As I understand it, PPC support has been officially withdrawn by
Canonical several releases back (I can't remember which one).
Therefore there is no official PPC release for Kubuntu.
There may be some versions of PPC Kubuntu distros produced but they
will be UNOFFICIAL and therefore you cannot rely on them. But hey - if
you want to try them and accept that there MAY be problems - go ahead.
I agree with you that "Linux on a Mac is delightful", but to be sure
that you have official support for the PPC architecture, I suggest you
go with Debian. The unstable series has (I believe) support for KDE
4.2.x.
My advice is to NOT upgrade to Kubuntu 8.10 or 9.04, but switch to
Debian. After all, its the distro on which the *ubuntu family was
based, so you should feel at home :-)
