I would consider this (pager, basic grep, etc.) a introductory lesson

How hard is that?  GUIs can overwhelm you too.

No, obviously not.  But in practice I think on a mailing list it's
easier to teach someone  how to use a CLI then a GUI.  "Click that
bluish folder" is a lot more error-prone than "Type:

foo execBlue /
